Elke Krasny is Professor of Art and Education at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Institute for Education in the Arts. She is head of the Art and Education program. As a cultural theorist and curator, Krasny researches issues of care and social reproduction, social and ecological justice, transnational feminisms, as well as memory work and the politics of history in contemporary art, architecture, curatorial practice and art education.
Her exhibition Hands-On Urbanism. The Right to Green was shown at the 2012 Biennale in Venice. Together with Angelika Fitz, she curated Critical Care. Architecture and Urbanism for a Broken Planet (2019). She curated the monographic exhibition Yasmeen Lari. Architecture for the Future (2023) together with Angelika Fitz and Marvi Mazhar. Edited volumes include: Curating with Care, with Lara Perry (Routledge 2023); Curating as Feminist Organizing, with Lara Perry (Routledge, 2022); Radicalizing Care. Feminist and Queer Activism in Curating, with Sophie Lingg, Lena Fritsch, Birgit Bosold and Vera Hofmann (Sternberg Press 2021), Critical Care. Architecture and Urbanism for a Broken Planet, with Angelika Fitz (MIT Press, 2019), In Reserve! The Household with Regina Bittner (Spector Books, 2016), Frauen:Museum. Politiken des Kuratorischen in Feminismus, Bildung, Geschichte und Kunst / Women’s Museum. Curatorial Politics in Feminism Education, History, and Art (Löcker Verlag, 2013). Her book Living with an Infected Planet, Covid-19, Feminism, and the Global Frontline of Care will be published with transcript in 2023.
Elke Krasny supervises dissertations on feminist and emancipatory dimensions of contemporary curatorial and artistic practice, didactics and education of the arts as well as memory work, spatial practices, architecture, and urbanism.
