Prizes for artistic final theses

The Art Prize Jury awards annual prizes for artistic diploma/final theses.

Among the artistic diploma/final theses of an academic year that have been graded "very good", the institutes make a preliminary selection that are deemed worthy of a prize. Each institute is entitled to nominate one third of these theses per field of study. Theses nominated for the prize for scientific theses cannot be nominated for the prize for artistic theses. Each thesis can only be nominated for a maximum of one of the two prizes.

At the end of the winter semester, the Art Prize Jury meets in the so-called intermediate jury. The intermediate jury visits those January or autumn diplomas nominated by the heads of the institutes for the prize jury, whose further construction in the summer would be too time-consuming. At the end of the summer semester, another viewing will take place. All nominated graduates have the opportunity to present their work and answer any questions during the viewing of the artistic works. Each person will have a maximum of ten minutes for their presentation and discussion. Afterwards, the winners will be awarded by the Art Prize Jury.

Prizes and award ceremony:

After all nominated artistic works have been viewed, the jury meeting will take place and the following prizes will be awarded:

  • 10 x Würdigungspreis (1.000 Euro)
  • 1 x Preis der Freunde der bildenden Kunst (500 Euro)
  • 1 x Preis der Akademie (2.000 Euro)

In addition to these prizes for graduates of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, the Art Prize Jury also awards an annual Füger Prize of 1.000 Euro, for which students of all artistic fields of study are entitled to submit works. The works must be hand drawings without exception and may not exceed the format 1m x 1m. Applications for the Füger Prize can only be submitted at the administrative offices of the particular institute within a certain period of time.

The prize will be awarded at the end-of-year celebration of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
